First of all, about the name of the nursery
The term "Magnum" in the gun industry means a cartridge of increased power compared to regular cartridges of the same caliber. Actually, the Maine Coon breed is a breed of cats of increased size, compared to regular domestic cats - it is the largest breed among domestic cats, so this name of the nursery reflects its essence as much as possible.
About the breed
The Maine Coon is a breed of cat that originated from the cats of the state of Maine in the northeastern United States. An aboriginal breed of cats in North America. The name "Maine Coon" is derived from two words. The first is the name of the state of Maine, and the second is derived from the English word "racoon", which translates as "raccoon". The oldest American breed of cats. It is the official symbol of the state of Maine. The breed was formed naturally under the influence of the harsh climatic conditions of the state of Maine, although there are also "alternative" versions (various kinds of legends) about the origin of Maine Coons. Maine Coons were first mentioned in literature in 1861. An article about a cat named Captain Jenks from the ship "Sea Horse" dates back to this time. Thus, the claims that this breed was created artificially are not true, which means that the lifestyle and nutrition of these cats must be guided by their natural habitat.
Character
The character of these animals is very docile, but it depends heavily on upbringing, especially at an early stage of development. If a person takes an active part in the process of growing up a kitten from the moment it begins to eat on its own, then the grown kitten will trust the person completely. There were cases when a kitten from our cattery, getting into a new home and fearing a new environment, hid in the arms of a new owner. For him, human hands are the most familiar and pleasant thing he has known in his life. Those who want to get such a pet should remember - these cats are very sociable, but most importantly - they really do not like loneliness. If the kitten is alone in the family, it will require constant attention, like a real child. If you are often away and the animal has to stay alone for a long time, I strongly recommend refusing to buy it. The animal suffers greatly when left alone. There are a lot of cats in our cattery, so they are definitely not bored, but each of them still requires attention from the owner, and when a kitten was locked alone in a room in quarantine (he was being treated for ringworm), he cried outside the door for days. We had to visit him often and just pet him, and after each visit, treat his hands and clothes with a disinfectant solution so as not to bring infection to the others.
Nutrition
Maine Coons eat the same as other cats. The common statement that they should be fed either natural meat or food is not entirely true, unless the animal has developmental disabilities, is healthy or is sterilized - here there are special conditions and the diet should be selected on the recommendation of the veterinarian treating this particular cat. If the animal is healthy and has no deviations from natural norms, then it should be fed what is natural for it in nature - meat, but necessarily with cartilage and veins. If you feed pure meat (tenderloin), especially from a young age, the kitten can get rickets. Cartilage and veins are an integral part of any rodent, which make up the diet of these animals in nature, so you should focus on nutrition based on these considerations. Our kittens' diet includes ground chicken necks, ground beef stomachs, and beef trimmings. Chicken necks should be given with caution - there is a lot of stuff mixed in store-bought chicken and sometimes cats are allergic to chicken, not as often and critically as many people say, but such cases have occurred. In general, food should be varied and here cats are not much different from people - even the most wonderful, healthy and tasty food simply gets boring. But with cat canned food you need to be extremely careful, especially with those in the lower price range - there is very little useful in it and we use it mainly as flavor additives to natural meat when it gets boring.
Vaccinations
Kittens are vaccinated no earlier than two months. First one, then, two weeks later, the second. Thus, a kitten vaccinated in this way can be obtained no earlier than 2.5 months. If someone sells a younger kitten and at the same time claims with a straight face that the kitten is fully vaccinated, he is lying without blushing. Most likely, if it is really vaccinated, such a kitten is older than they say, so that it appears larger.
Hunting
Maine Coons are hunters by nature. If there are birds, fish or hamsters in the house, the house will be turned upside down trying to get them. These bastards hunt everything that moves, and if something does not move, they move it themselves and hunt. When we had to keep the grown kittens in a cage while they were being treated for ringworm, they were too bored and the toys offered did not help - these bastards took the food out of the bowl and played with it. The food spent on games was not much less than on food, actually.
Bathing
It is advisable to bathe coons no more than once a month - this is recommended by many sources, as for the animal's tolerance and loyalty to bathing - here the decisive factor can be considered the accustoming from a kitten. When I bathe from a month or two and then dry with a hairdryer - then he is not afraid of bathing at all and is not afraid of a hairdryer, and there were some that chattered with pleasure under the hairdryer. And if you start late - 5 months and later, the fear may never be overcome. Although they love water - there should be a large bowl of water in the house so that they can wet their paws there. If there is no large bowl, they will wet them in a small one from which they drink, usually turning it over and flooding everything around.
